GUIDANCE

At home

What to do when someone dies at home, whether the death was expected or sudden — and when to telephone us.

A death at home can feel very sudden even when it has been expected for some time. Nothing has to happen quickly. Before anyone else attends, you are entitled to sit with your loved one for as long as you wish.

The first call is to a doctor, not to us. If the death was expected, that is the GP or the district nurse. If it was sudden or unexpected, telephone 999 first. Once a doctor or paramedic has attended and verified the death, ring us on 01709 571 777 and we will come whenever you are ready — day or night.
